Skill development training for the Waste Pickers was jointly organized by Puri Municipality and Odisha Development Management Programme(ODMP). Susanta Kumar Tripathy, Convener, ODMP conducted the program. UNDP State Chief- Ms. Ava Mishra was the Chief Guest of the training program, she discussed about the management of the household waste materials and plastic waste. Mr. Gourav Agarwal gave training on waste management. The program was organized at Penthakota Cyclone Shelter.
Plastic waste has created a threat to the whole world. It is also creating problems in waste management. In this context, efforts are being made by Puri Municipality with the help of UNDP and Coca-Cola Company for better management of plastic waste. ODMP, a leading voluntary organization, has started the program in collaboration with Puri Municipality. The volunteers of ODMP distributed masks, gloves etc. to the Sanitation Workers involved in this program. The distribution program was conducted by Susanta Kumar Tripathy, the Convener of ODMP.
A health awareness camp has been organized at Penthakota Cyclone Shelter area of Puri by the leading voluntary organization ODMP. The program aimed at protecting the health and life of the Waste Pickers. Medicines, soaps and masks were distributed to the Sanitation workers. Dr. Bhabani Shankar Mohapatra examined the health of about 60 Sanitation workers and provided medicines to them.
Capacity building of the Waste Pickers was organized in collaboration with Puri Municipality. The 3-day program provided training to the Waste Pickers on use of plastic waste, plastic waste management, and composting of plastic waste. The ways through which the Waste Pickers can earn money by doing this was discussed in detail. Soaps, Masks and Aprons were distributed to the Waste Pickers.
Odisha Development Management Programme(ODMP) organized a COVID-19 awareness program for the Sanitation Workers- who are risking their lives to clean the streets during the Corona Pandemic. A free health check-up camp were conducted fir the Waste Pickers.They were advised to protect themselves and others while performing their duties. Masks, soaps and medicines have been distributed to them by ODMP. Dr. Bhavani Shankar Mohapatra examined the health of 60 sanitation workers and advised them to stay safe during the pandemic.
Despite the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Waste Pickers are still performing their duties. Despite facing various difficulties, they strive to keep the city clean. Odisha Development Management Programme(ODMP) in collaboration with “Goonj” have distributed Ration Kits to 100 no. of sanitation workers living in the slum areas. Each Kits included rice, pulses, spices, toothpaste, masks, towels, etc.
